Creek visit to explore members' thoughts about Stage 1 Work Plan of Creeklands Master Plan

Members of Visions for Armidale Creeklands have recently been surveyed to find out their ideas and thoughts about Council's adopted Work Plan for Stage 1 of the Creeklands Master Plan. We have concerns about some of the priorities, the lack of focus on water and the absence of consultation.

We do not intend this to be a large gathering as it is primarily aimed for our members to meet informally. However, if any non-members are keen to come along, feel free to do so as we are keen to seek the views of the broader community.

We will ensure that we are Covid-safe in this informal outside gathering.

Meet at the skatepark (near the Monkton swimming complex) on Dumaresq St - at 1 pm on Saturday February 5, 2022.

NB. If it is seriously raining or stormy at that time, we will gather instead at the picnic tables, under cover, next to the public toilet just north of the Marsh St bridge (corner Marsh St and Kirkwood St).

Revised agenda for Public meeting to discuss Armidale creeklands

Revised agenda for Public meeting to discuss Armidale creeklands

The draft Master Plan for the Dumaresq Creeklands was due to be released for comment following the last meeting of Armidale Regional Council on October 24, 2018.

As the draft Master Plan was NOT released following Council’s meeting - no explanation has yet been received - the agenda for our public meeting will be somewhat changed:

  • Review recent events and the decision by Council NOT to release the draft Master Plan for community consultation at its October meeting

  • Explore a range of actions that might be taken by our association in the short, medium and long term

  • Develop a timeline to create a single comprehensive Vision that will become our primary focus for future actions

  • Discuss ways in which our association might seek funding and support which will enable us to more effectively reach our goals

  • Seek volunteers to help

  • Invite those members of the public attending (who agree with our aim) to join us as financial members

The date, time and venue for the meeting remain unchanged.

Please note that this meeting is NOT organised by Council - we are a not-for-profit community group whose members have lived in Armidale for a cumulative total of more than 1000 years. We care about our creeklands and think that, with careful planning, they could be the ‘jewel in the crown’ of Armidale. Our interests are broad, long-term and our passion is for ‘Visionary’ ideas and concepts - especially those which incorporate water features.

We would welcome your ideas and look forward to discussing a wide range of views on the night. It will provide an opportunity to meet members of the association and interested members of the public.

Let’s make sure that all of the community’s views are put forward - please let your friends know about this important opportunity for our community to make its voices heard.
