This page provides a brief history of some of the historical coverage of the Armidale creeklands in the media.  Many of the links below are from our local newspaper, the Armidale Express.  We are grateful for permission from the Armidale Express to reprint these images and to those who helped compile them including Graham Wilson OAM and Bill Oates from the UNE Heritage Futures Research Centre and some from the collection of the late Mr Bruce Cady.

The major themes of the newspaper coverage of the creeklands include: floods, siltation, erosion, pollution, engineering works, beautification, costs of works and land acquisition.

Deputation on Creek to get 90 minute hearing by council

"Both the Improvement and Beautification Committee and the Dumaresq Creek Improvement committee presented to Council about the realignment of the creek".

The improvement committees asked Council in a letter to delay it's Dumaresq Creek proposals until alternative schemes have been considered.

Alderman K Jones said "they should come armed with submissions of costs of the proposal they will outline"

"The committee also decided the improvement committee should be asked to give details of their schemes to the city engineer ... so he could prepare estimate of costs".
